After 40 years of rest...

Over this past weekend, I dug in my heels to try and give the recent 29 Tudor I picked up for another project a wake up call.
My sixteen year old son and I spent a few hours on Saturday seeing what would happen if we added a little gas and spark and a little fresh air to this sleeper......
He learned along the way as we cleaned the points, added new plugs and also a new condenser and a turned a few screws along the way and also removing the carb that was said to be rebuilt years back and cleans the jets to make it all happen.
It took some fiddling around, but after doing all of the above we had fire in all four cylinders and the classic sound of a model A coming out the tail pipe.......I know this is nothing new to all you guys, but to bring it back to life after all that time and watch my son back it out of the garage and drive it down the alley for two blocks and then back and into the garage and the smile on his face.......I would call all of the above a successful days work!!!
I tried to add a video or him as he went putt putt down the alley......but the site wouldn't let me load it (maybe I didn't do it right), either way it will be one of those days that end up in the memory bank for me and him!

Spent a good part of the weekend cleaning out stuff in the garage to get working room around Dad's '31 Roadster. It's sat for 30 years, hope to report it's running by the end of September. Bob

You can upload the video to Youtube and then link it here.

Glad to hear another has been revived!

I also spent the weekend firing up a recently purchase 30 coupe after 43 years of storage. It put a smile on my face to hear it run. My runs a little rough I'm thinking a stuck valve, also the clutch seems to be frozen to the flywheel. Is there an easy way to unstick the valve without removing the head?

There is nothing like the feeling you get when you fire up that A that has been brought back from the dead. Top that with the interaction of your son and you have the best of both worlds. Good Luck!

I had the same problem a few years ago. An old mechanic told me to squirt some P B Blaster in each spark plug hole and let it sit for a few days. I started it up and haven't had a valve problem since.

Also put some mystery oil in the gas and oil. Depending which valve is stuck, you can reach in the spark plug hole with a screwdriver and push the valve down. Also running it a few minutes each day so the engine warms up will help.
