Aerostar springs

Abchoppers, if you’ve still got the old springs, measure the free height. And the number of turns. I suspect the “conflicting information” comes from replacing springs that are sagging or have been cut already. You’re happy, but if we could compare the free height stock, settled, etc. the next guy would have better info to work from. Might save something from having to drop them a second time to add a spacer.

My bird came with fairly new, low milage springs. I cut them once to get the car level (a lot of aluminum parts and headers on the bird). Then the Aerostar’s barely lowered it. Which was ok, I did it for the variable spring rate.

The free height of my old springs is 15.5”, the number of turns or full coils is 9.5
I think you’re right about old settled springs being the factor that makes some of our results in amount lowered different. I also only have top coil insulators, no bottoms on Mercury. I replaced mine with new stock insulators, no spacers

Thanks. Sooner or later there’ll be enough info for a chart. That will save a lot of questions and mistakes. Most bird guys don’t modify stuff, so I’m kind of an outlier.

They are variable rate so the windings are tighter one end, which way do the go?
Tight end up or down?

Thanks Abchoppers, I have a set for my 50 coupe and plan to also get a pair for my 54 Victoria.
I am ;looking forward to see how much difference they make to the drivability.
