I haved looked at the Search Function, the Advanced Search function, the FAQ's and the About Us page to see if you can use quotation marks and other methods to limit your searches and have not come up with an answer.

If I type in Valve clearance I seem to get results of anything with Valve and anything with clearance.

If I type in "Valve clearance" I seem to get results of only threads where valve and clearance are the two words next to each other.

Can you use a + sign so if the word valve and the word clearance were in a reply, no matter how far apart they are and both words are in a thread in the same reply, then the thread would appear as a search result?

Any other tips on how to do searches would be appreciated.

Try it. I just happened to do a search today on another post, "Head and Block, gasket surface finish". I selected the A forum and got two hits. Then I removed the quotes and did another search which gave me four hits. So the quotes do something but I am not sure what. One would expect every post that contained the word "and" would show up, but that was not the case. Gotta go ta a show, I'll play around with this some more.
