Adjusting Shocks??

I put some aftermarket shocks on my rig. They were all set the same when I put them on. How do I know if they are set correctly? Do I jump up and down on the bumpers and see what they do? Try to see if the rig bounces to much on bumps? Or how do you tell if you have them set correctly? Is there kind of a scientific way to tell or is it just a "feel"?

few aftermarket shocks are adjustable. Most have an internal resevoir that cannot be adjusted or refilled. Stipes can be adjusted tho'.

When I adjusted mine I used the february 1931 service bulletin article, made an arm out of a cutoff shock arm, guessed at the weight , and scaled it from the picture for the length --but i did it off the car so i didn't need to make it fancy. I started with good cores, I could almost stop movement with the needle valve closed on the downstroke.
