adjusting header

Another problem. I am trying to make sure my header is in place. On the first picture you see the cover flush with the wood, but then my screw holes inside the car do not match up as you can see in the 2nd picture.

So now if I move the cover to match the inside holes then I have to move the header out which in turns does not give me room for the screws to catch the wood on the inside plus the front of the cover will now have a gap by the molding. Which is the correct way for the header to be placed.
Either way I will still have to put a spacer between the header and the top cross bar.
I'm thinking the first picture is right but I would have to drill out wider holes on the cross bar and put the inner screws on a slant to catch the wood fully.

Hi Frank,

Are you using anything that is reproduction in this? Especially wood? The wood does not usually work 100% correctly and you have to make some mods to it. Have you contacted Dan Gamble of the Town Sedan Club? I can't help you here.

Mike

Thanks for the replies. Yes the wood is new. There was nothing left of the old wood. I had to sand both out side edges already. about 1/2 to long on each side. It's hard when you have no help. I don't know of Dan Gamble. Please remember this is all new to me.

Usually some of the wood isn't a perfect drop in fit, especially the header. I had to tweak mine a bit. A little sanding, grinding and fitting is usually needed.

My car is a Briggs / three window. Straight windshield.
My biggest problem is if the header is pushed flush to the cross bracket then the front windshield screws miss the wood. So I took the top apart and got the header to move forward and now the back cover screw holes don't match. So with this in mind The header cover has to be tight to the wood , face and bottom. To do this I would have to take the header off and make spacers between the cross bracket and the header so the cover fits tight in the front face and bottom. My biggest thing then is should the face fit tight to the side support like in my third picture and first picture?
