45lb is a good start.

Set the air pressure to the gun according to paint instructions in spec sheet, thin material acording to instructions using viscosity cup. then adjust paint feed on gun as you test spray on panel ( or inside of garage door) watch for paint gloss, orange peel( too much paint). Arm speed, distance from panel also change your finish. Practice is the best way to understand this. I hope this helps

What type gun? HVLP? RP? Siphon? What type paint? There are dozens of variables....generally hvlp and rp guns need about 30 psi, siphon 45-55 psi. Get a gauge and regulator for your gun. Practice, practice. TIP...auto paint stores have mistake paint that you can buy very cheap. You don't have to use the $$$ stuff to practice........pm me with Q's if you want.

There is a spray fan pattern that you are supposed to adjust for and a coverage. You really need to be informed as to the needs of the product you are spraying, to just put a number on it is not the right approach. You may be able to get by at a certain pressure but if you want the best result you need to read the data supplied by the paint manufacturer. A lot of factors affect the spray performance, I would go to a few paint manufacturers sites and see what their recommendations are, also research the other products being used primers sealers etc, each has special requirements and temperature can play a role as well.

I disagree 3340, The fan pattern should be an long oval about 2in. wide and about 10 to 15 in. high at about 8 in. from the panel. 30 psi gravity feed HVLP. Base Coat,Clear Coat. Ken

Just to add to all the good info above , Thinning dip in a stira 2" then pull it out at the count of 4 it should be dripping ,overlap make sure you overlap 50%. pressure ,I prefer at least 50PSI at the gun .Set the fan at 8 max wide/high at 50PSI .Hot climate. use a retarder thinner ,Spray a light coat so you can still see the base colour all over ,this will give you the feel of how it is going .If its coming out lumpy then thin it more, or open up the needle paint feed .or increase the air to the gun. ,Start on the next coat doing one door at a time ,Listen for the air as it hits the door gap work the trigger accordantly ,on this coat you should be getting a nice wet look . depending on how fast you get around leave it for 1/2 to one hr then start on the third coat ,I use this for 2K
