adjustable tappets

Good morning, I was wondering what kind of a job it is to adjust tappets in a flathead. Starting to clatter, engine was rebuilt in 1993, runs great but a little noisy. I bought the adjustable lifters from early ford in Albany, the outfit that bought out Richmond Bell's business on Cape Cod. I don't know what brand they are. Thanks.

Are they hollow? If they are, are the bosses drilled to accept a pin? If answers to these questions are "yes", it ain't a bad job at all. And, if you typed in "tappets" to search for info on this subject, you might have better luck using "lifters".

Not a difficult task with the correct tools/equipment and knowing how/where/what position the cam, valves and lifters should be when settings are made. There have been some good procedures posted here in the past that could be found by doing a search here or in the archives. Something to consider as you make these adjustments is...is the threaded screw adjustment tight enough to maintain proper adjustment? If not, new high quality replacement adjustable lifters may be necessary.
