If your talking a hollow bucket type roller lifter, where you'd plop the shims in the bottom. If the bucket was deeply cut inside, what goes between the shims in the bottom of the bucket and the valve stem? You'd have a big gap to make up, wouldn't you? To not have the big gap, it would be heavy, which I think is not desirable with a roller profile cam. Which would have very fast opening and shutting rates.
What about a bucket in side a bucket? You have a roller with a bucket on it, then shims in the bottom of the bucket then an upturned bucket that slips inside the roller bucket, the shim stack moves the inner bucket up or down to adjust the gap? Get what I meen? This would work with stock valve lengths.
Crower makes roller cams, and I guess the lifters too.
