Add Turn Signal Wires

My wiring set didn't come with wires to add turn signals. How many wires do I need to run from the steering column to the rear of the vehicle?

Following the signal: From the column (i.e., the turn signal switch), one new wire goes FROM the turn signal switch all the way TO the right rear, and one new wire goes FROM the turn signal switch TO the area of the brake light switch, where it gets spliced into the existing brake light wire at the brake light switch (this becomes left rear). You also need to remove the existing interconnect between left and right brake light, which is usually from one lamp assembly to the other.

Another new wire will go FROM the switched side of the brake light switch TO the turn signal switch. Get the diagram for your turn signal switch and it should be readily apparent.

So it’s three wires to the underside of the car. One goes all the way to right rear, and the remaining two go to the area of the brake light switch for connection to existing points.

You can get wire loom in various sizes from the Model A vendors to tidy up the appearance of these new wire bundles.

An alternative is to add blinkers separate from the brake/tail light assemblies. I just added stand alone blinkers to the four corners of the bumpers. Ran a dedicated ground wire to the rear, and a dedicated ground wire to the front, when I installed my lighting harness, so i will have no grounding issues using the frame as a ground. Ran one wire to each lite mounted in the bumpers from the blinker assy. on the steering column, mounted a flasher on the column just above the steering box. Pulled power from the ignition side of the fuse on the starter, and added a dedicated fuse for the blinker power. Don't need the wire going to the brake switch. At the same time I added a backup light to my rear spare mount bracket and a toggle switch near the blinker assy. I have side muont spares so didn't need the rear spare bracket. Everything is working very well.

I also agree with ModelA29, I did the logolites kit and works great. you can get them from the normal suppliers, mine came from Snyders

I have what I believe is a very early version of the LogoLights kit. Beware, you will NOT be able to modify this kit (or at least mine wouldn't) to use the aftermarket LED replacement taillight assemblies. You will be limited to the lights that come with the kit.

I like making my own turn signal system. Here is the schematic I drew up for mine.

Rear lights are stand alone. front are the parking light two lite reflector. operated by a switch under the dash rail. I don't care for the looks of that big switch on the steering column.
