Add-on oiling to timing cover/cam gear

A previous owner of my 30 Tudor added a small copper line from the oil port in the side of the block to the timing pin hole in the front cover. I assume their intent was to provide additional oiling to the timing gears. However I have been told several times that this is unnecessary because a large volume of oil is dumped into the front housing from the lifter galley. I discovered yesterday that this oil line had broken at the ferrule. Does anyone see any danger in doing away with this line completely? Is it possible that a rebuilder may have blocked the oil passage between the lifter galley and front housing somehow and this line is the only lube the timing gears are getting? Worst case scenario, I have to remove the front cover to check. Thanks for any insight you may be able to lend.

All the excess oil that is pumped goes over the dam to the cam gear. the added route should not be necessary unless there has been modifications internally. take a look to be sure.

Thanks J Franklin.

Has anyone ever seen any modifications to the area where oil spills from the lifter galley to the front cover to change the oil flow? Has anyone ever seen or made the modifications I described above involving a suplementary oil line?

Thanks.

Yes I have seen it done by the "old timers", but as J. Franklin stated, it does no good. Often this was the case with many "modifications" done in the interest of making them better.
