Adapting Power Steering to a 49 Merc 8

Has anyone adapted/mated a GM (or other) power steering pump to a 49 Merc Ford Flat 8 ? I'm dropping the engine into an S-10 chassis that has a power steering gear box.

Thanks

Your putting a 49 flathead engine into an S10 truck? Now that sounds like a bad idea. Have you considered the engine weight difference? I would think the power steering pump would be the least of your concerns!

Yes, piece of cake. Mount it on a side mount generator bracket.

Well I have seen lots of 350 short blocks in S-10s so its pretty common. After all it is a truck chassis. I figure if needed it should not be that difficult to make upgrades for additional weight. I already put a 350 short block i 400HP n an MGB without any suspension modification and thats a lot heavier than the stock 4 cyl. 350's are a dime a dozen..flat heads are cool and will make the project a lot more fun. Any way looks like I have just decided to go with a manual box. On to motor mounts and trans selection.

I put a Ford 302 in my Bronco II 4 wheel drive. No problem with suspension. I was told by the folks in the know that a Ranger 2wd suspension would not handle it. But. A flathead is a lot heavier than a 302. Some suspension work would be in order but it could be done.

A short block is a engine with NO head on it.

You must mean small block... ;) just sayin.

I added a GM power steering pump to an 8BA to drive a sagnaw 510 PS box

I ran the Alt and PS pump off the same Serpentine belt. The crank pulley is from an old Buick, I made the fan and water pump pulley on the Buick pulley. Truck stears real nice.
