AA Truck and A car Front Axle Different

For 28-29 vehicles the front axle is the same. The spindles are different.
For 30-31 vehicles the AA front axle is heavier part.

The front axle on my PU is marked AA, but I don't know if that really means anything or not. It has "car" hubs on it.

The "AA",s have larger king pins & starting NOV 29 the front radius rods were made 3/16" longer for easier handling by giving axle a 3 degree caster.the longer rods have the letters AA stamped at the ends of the rods. From page 392 of Service Bulletins.

CarlG,

Most, if not all of my '30-'31 Model A front axles have a raised casting mark AA, not to be confused with the '30-'31 "AA" front axles. Not certain why that they are marked this way.

It has something to do with the metal used in the part. I've also seen "EE" on some axles.

It was forged using Ford's "type AA" steel. Others were "type EE" steel.

'28/'29 AA's used the A front axle.

Through mid February 1929, the AA used A spindles. AA's were then upgraded with heavier duty AA spindles. Ford recalled prior AA's and upgraded them to the new AA spindles. So, very few '28 AA's have the A spindles now.
