AA Duelie Pickup

This morning I saw what I believe is a '28-'29 AA pickup on the Post Road in Cos Cob, CT. It had a long wheelbase and Budd type wheel, dual at the rear. Did Ford make such a truck? Or is it a Model A heavy duty. It seemed to sit close to the ground for an AA. If the owner is on the Barn, send me a pm. Like to get a closer look at your beautiful truck.

You may have seen the express bed Model AA. It had a factory sheet metal box that was rather long compared to the regular pick up .You could search this forum or may google it and see if that is what you saw

Only a few months ago, I saw one of those express bed trucks advertised and the owner said that unless it sold, it was going to junk. He had a reasonable reserve on it but still it didn't sell. I guess the local scrap metal dealer made a few $.
I'd have bought it myself but they don't float!! It has been said many times here that we all want a bargain and make low offers while a hot rodder will offer more. I think we are our own worst enemy when it comes to preserving these vehicles.
How's that for sidetracking a thread??!!?

Express beds are pretty rare, especially in reasonable condition, and nobody I know makes them anymore. I'd think they are popular enough that somebody would repop them. In the alternative, has anyone taken the 31 wide bed front and tailgate and fabricated sides that approximates an express bed? Seems doable, and may be the only way for us AA guys to get what we want.

Here is an express.

Bob

I can't remember ever seeing a Model AA with Express Bed and dual rear wheels. Every Express Bed I've ever seen has rear fenders, and every dual rear wheel AA I've ever seen has no rear fenders.

Don, here's a few pics of a '30-'31 with dual wheels and rear fenders but it has a wider bed. Would this still be considered an express bed?

That looks like the 195-A Express bed, but not the correct rear fenders for dual rear wheels.

I found this photo on the Model AA Truck Club web site. Apparently the trucks with Express beds and dual rear wheels had special wide rear fenders. This truck belongs to Bud Valerius.

The duals look smaller than the front tires, plus they stick outside the fenders, so I'd think someone added them. Like Don, I've only seen single tires with the rear fenders on the express.

There were several types of trucks that could get the dual rear wheels in the model A years. There were also 7 different fenders for trucks with the dual rear wheels.

85·B Panel delivery
210-A panel delivery
242-A heavy duty express
199-A Ice wagon
229-A service car with crane
290-A police patrol standard
195·A, Express body short
197-A, Express body long
280-A, ambulance,
285-A police patrol deluxe
300-A deluxe delivery

How would Dualies work on an ambulance (280-A) and the other deluxe models that came with wire wheels?
