AA bell housing to frame original mounts

Can original passenger car rear mounts be used between a passenger car frame and AA bell / fly. housing ?

I'm not sure, but probably not??? They probably won't fit the frame? I have a hi-low trans for a AA, in good shape. $100 plus freight. Message me if interested.

For an A frame, the A motor mounts can and must be used (the AA motor mounts will not fit into the A frame).

For an AA frame, the A motor mounts will fit but will lower the engine slightly and therefore causes alignment problems for choke rod, gas pedal, etc).

Vince Falter outlines the Ford Instructions for mounting a 4 speed transmission in an A automobile.

https://www.fordgarage.com/pages/aafourspeedachassis.htm

The instructions include a parts list - and motor mounts are not specified. The parts required are in the transition to the Model A universal/rear axle. Neil may be correct in that the bolting "attachments" may be in a slightly different location (probably to accommodate the different "depth" of the AA frame) but then the difference was not considered consequential.

Funny. Elsewhere on that reference Vince discusses the specified 1 inch thick A-7085-E transmission rear bearing retainer. Those who have done this report that using the usual bearing retainer results in less than one inch change in the rear wheels position and is not consequential either.

I suppose readjustment of your brake rods would be required. Maybe that could be considered a consequence?

I have a double A4 speed in my roadster pickup and as far as I know the mounts are the same.

How about that A-7085-E transmission rear bearing retainer? I think we've communicated here earlier and you were the one who said you used the "normal" rear bearing retainer - and your wheels were moved "back?"

But other than that there was no change?

Back when I had the 26K Model AA I had planned to put a Warford overdrive in the intermediate shaft location. Same issue of 4 speed bell housing/transmission sizing and I had to find the A-7085-E "thin" retainer to do it But the difference there was the wheels can't be moved back anchored as they are at the universal/trunion to the frame mid-crossmember.

IIRC it was Tam's Model A who had the thin retainer.

It was Vince's Fordgarage.com who guided me through the change.

For my present July 28 AA I again have a Warford to install, but the transmission is a 3-speed. As in no problemo.

Yes that was me whoever did the double A. transmission swap used the standard retainer so theoretically the rear axles moved back I believe 3/8 of an inch. The rear spring just flexes a little bit more!!!

Thank you all for the responses. Just thought to check the '32 Parts Price List and the stock passenger mounts appear to fit both fly housings. The Canadian motor mounts are different styles from USA but the dimensions appear to be the same.
