A solution to Forum hijacking

I'm happy theway it is. My delete button has no lettering left.

I also use Fordbarn for help in related hobbies/areas. I consider Fordbarn part of my family and I'm willing to ask anything. I preface it with a comment "Not Ford related" or some such and ask my Q. I get super help always and thanks to you all. I also like to post some stuff about my toy train hobby and event of interests. I am truly amazed about how many Fordbarners are in TCA as well. Collectors at heart, I guess.

I feel something this forum desperately needs is stickies for common subjects such as oil, timing, lead and carburetor issues.

If one of each of the most popular threads gets "stickied" to the top of the list it would stop new threads from being started constantly. Newcomers would instantly see the topic and start reading it rather than creating new.

I think that snow-mobile video with the two large drive screws has been the recipient of 7 or 8 dedicated threads.

Clem,

Not to hijack a thread on thread hijacking or anything, but some of us train guys are in LCCA. Talk about a fragmented hobby--toy purists, scale purists of several stripes, hi-railers.

I agree with all who feel that this forum is pretty good as is, but ... maybe I'm part of the problem!

A Hydraulic brake conversion, done properly, can be a plus to eliminate many wear out parts, such as rods, pins, crossbars, adjustment problems, etc.
Many drivers are disappointed that braking efficiency is still not really improved. Addition of a small Bendix Hydro Vac type unit, plumbed into the hydraulic line between the master cylinder and the first "T" connection, run a vacum hose to the intake manifold, and you will have REALLY EFFICIENT brakes. The unit is small and can be mounted, hidden, under the floor. They were also used on the A.M.C. Pacers, maybe on others.-- Bill W.

Bill,
Can you suggest a good place to learn more about this product?
THanks!

I'm guilty. Forgive me...please. I'll try to do better in the future but sometimes one topic leads to another and I can't help but post a reply that is slightly off center of the original thread. Isn't that what a forum table is all about? Isn't the broad discussion of a subject the whole point of our venture?

I know that the subject is apples and some thoughtless cad brings up oranges and before long the whole conversation is about fruit in general. Really I understand. There is room for us all at the table.

Now that this is worked over can we get back to talking about Model A's or is it Model As? Anybody know the correct way to write Model A as a plural?

Normally, apostrophes are used to indicate possessives or contractions, but my wife, who spends her life grading writing papers, assures me that it's ok to also use an apostrophe to indicate plural when it's necessary to avoid confusion. Here's what Wikipedia says:

The marking as plural of written items that are not words established in English orthography (as in P's and Q's, the late 1950's). (This is considered incorrect by some; see Use in forming certain plurals. The use of the apostrophe to form plurals of proper words, as in apple's, banana's, etc., is universally considered incorrect.)

So, I go with Model A's for plural. Don't know how you would handle the possessive plural--probably rewrite the sentence.

"A gaggle of Model A's", or

"A parking lot full of A Model's"

mixing "A" and "s's" without correct punctuation can get you in trouble with the Penguin.

Steve,
Sorry I should have mentioned all the train clubs. Having just been TCA National President, I think of us first.

LCCA is a fine orgainzaton. Are you keeping Dennis, Lou, Al and Dick in check. Them's is good folk.

At TCA's Eastern Division meet in York, PA we hold a liaison meeting twice a year. Invited include reps from NMRA, LCCA, TTOS, LOTS TCA. We talk over issues of mutual interest. All have gained significanly from these meetings. Car folks should do more of this. I laud SEMA and others for getting us car folks together to fight stupid laws restricting old car use, E85 and other dumbnesses. (Of course when a parade occurs politicans always want to ride in an old car.)

GREAT photo you included. The next generation is running trains. I love it. I'm guessing that is your granddau and pride and joy!

I agree, especially after the question has been answered, correctly. It is common for the thread to morph into other related info, sometimes, even an english refresher. Its all good with me.

It's not really the Hardcore vs. Mainstream that bothers me on here... BUT it is the newbies vs. know-it-alls that really burns my biscuits......Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great, knowledgeable, people willing to go out of their way to help a new(er) guy out, but then you have some that when you have a legitmate quesiton that you don't know the answer to, you sometimes have that know-it-all smart a$$ with no tact chiming in....and not trying to help at all......just my .02

Leave it the way it is! Except I could use a spell checker to check my very bad spelling. I think there is one one here but I have not found it yet.

Steve S thats a great picture of you. I'm not sure how to say this but you look much younger than the one of you outside all bundled up.

I'm into a lot of hobbys as well and like to talk about them with others that I know here. We need a forum for more things than just model "A"s. Is there a main place we could all talk about "anything" ?

THanks, I guess, but I'm actually about 10 years younger in the above picture. That little cutie is my sister's great granddaughter. There's something timelessly magical about that Lionel ZW handle.

Other bulletin boards I deal with have a special off-topic, "anything" forum. I very seldom wind up looking at them. I think a tolerance for the occasional diversion, like we have on FordBarn, is the best way to go. As long as everyone plays nice.

I like the 'ol Barn just as it is too. Except there is some clown on here who sometimes like to post silly messages on the threads. I'm keeping an eye out for him let me tell ya'...why I believe besides A-Models he even owns a "she-ever-lay"! If that don't tell ya' that he is a kook, I don't know what will.

Peace

Fred,
Forget the spell check, it wouldn't have caught the misspelling in your last sentence above. :D

Bendix Hydrovac on the net or contact any local truck brake supply. Easy to install, efficient, and trouble free. A dealer can advise on size of unit, depending on your brake size, type and car weight. Bill W.
