A solution to Forum hijacking

I have many varied interests and websites that cater to these interests are far more subject specific than either the FordBarn or Ahooga. For instance, the Air Stream travel trailer site has at least three or four dozen headings and subheadings. Same for the Ford Courier and El Camino Central. It takes but a minute to skip over subjects that annoy you or you have no interest in. A simple request for pictures of Model A speedsters turned into an US vs THEM pissing match that accomplished nothing.

Curious to know how many hard core A restoration types would pay for a highly restricted forum format that excluded the great unwashed A owners that have gone to 12v or hydraulic brakes. On the other hand, where would I advertise original A parts for pennies on the dollar that appeal to the restoration guys?

As that great pundit Rodney King once said, "Can't we all just get along?'

Like water off of a ducks back, I tell myself that it's just raining. :D
Lots of neat pictures too.

There a many topics that don't interest me on here,
I don't open them up to read, I just skip over them and go to the next subject, the next, the next. It seems like an easy solution to me!!

The Civil War reenactors have multiple forums. There is one for hardcores and one for mainstreamers.

The hardcore site restricts all content to verifiable evidence such as 1860's photos, diaries, newspaper articles, books, documents, etc. If your post can't be verified by period evidence, it is deleted. Only real history survives.

The mainstream site allows almost anything, ignoring inauthentic reproductions, reenactments, military protocol, etc. Sometimes anything goes.

Fordbarn seems to have a healthy mixture of both, from what I've observed in the last year.

Certainly the hardcores irritate the mainstreamers, and vice-versa, but everything still seems to flow smoothly. I can't remember any really good flame wars here. (I apologize for my sometimes hard comments.)

It would be interesting to try a hardcore site, but it might be difficult to get any traction, especially with the popularity of fordbarn.

i'm in it for the conviviality.
pay to read on a site ? no need.
and i actually enjoy the squabbling, it's comical.
too, many topics don't involve my aspect but when i have the time, i'll read 'em all.

Even "hardcores" are not interested in reading every problem subject or topic. The "Fordbarn" provides me with a very large amount of valuable information and good contacts. SIG's are just that. Sorry....I for one am not interested in any other website other than the Fordbarn. I use the search feature we already have, to find information on a particular topic.

I like the way this forum is set out, and who uses it.
I'll never own a blue ribbon A, but I like to read about when the changes were made, and I greatly respect those who do the research and print the info here.
I like to read about other peoples minor mods and problems they've had.
Everbodies preference is different for what they want in an A, and this forum allows everyone to join in and discuss.
If some topics get a bit heated, then the mods can step in and take appropriate action as they see fit.
The info provided here by all contributors is too good to restrict.

Likewise. The contacts I've made and the answers I recieved are invaluable. I've had the blanks filled in on some of my minor mods with friendlyness and willingness to help. I'm very happy with the civility and lack of real trash talk I've noticed on similar forums.

I just realized I started the "Post a Speedster" entry almost a year ago. Just some pics I'd picked up when I had money (and a dream) to build a Speedster. The yellow boat-tail was WITHIN MY GRASP until the whole thing fell apart.

I did get flamed once when I posted a SuperBowl pickem' here instead of the lounge; I think it was Patriots vs. Giants. I didn't know there was a lounge. I though this place was a lounge/engineering workshop/General Store with potbellied stove on a cold day/place to get a laugh/post a pic/keep up with the news/find out how a sick Forum Friend was fairing/beg for information/tap an experts brain, etc and etal.

Now I start with "Off Topic" so the dis-interested can go elsewhere; see my Elvis' Birthday post today.

With time short and information priceless, I'm hoping that we can keep a reasonable level of "all comers" on THIS site, as I don't have time to hit ALL the A Model forums and variations. Now if you put a Chevy smallblock in an A Model --- You should be BANHAMMERED and thrice lambasted with a wet noodle.

And that's all I've got to say 'bout that....

Fordbarn is fine jus' lik it is. Lets dont mess with a good thing. if I dont like a thread I just dont open it - very simple. ken

I just skip the topics that dont interest me, or have been hashed and rehashed over and over, and the "ignore" feature allows us to skip comments made by anybody we really find annoying. I like the way this forum works.

If its is not broke dont try to fix it, you will brake it. Like it just like it is has helped me a lot of time. Thanks ford barn.

Like in AA Take away what you want and leave the rest. Plenty of room here for everyone and their opinions, and if there's something you're not interested in just skip over it. JMO

I am one of the "great unwashed A owners that have gone to 12v or hydraulic brakes" but I appreciate the tremendous patience, expense and difficulty in doing a fine points restoration. But more importantly, even though my cabriolet build is not a "pure" restoration, I like being able to ask questions that the real experts can answer that may not be quickly found by my reviewing the Judging Standards. Some things I will do in my build are not correct and I know it, but for a lot of my build I generally want to do things "correctly," and the forum as it is helps me learn how to do so.

A Hydraulic brake conversion, done properly, can be a plus to eliminate many wear out parts, such as rods, pins, crossbars, adjustment problems, etc.
Many drivers are disappointed that braking efficiency is still not really improved. Addition of a small Bendix Hydro Vac type unit, plumbed into the hydraulic line between the master cylinder and the first "T" connection, run a vacum hose to the intake manifold, and you will have REALLY EFFICIENT brakes. The unit is small and can be mounted, hidden, under the floor. They were also used on the A.M.C. Pacers, maybe on others.-- Bill W.

I like The Ford Barn just the way it is. I doesn't take long to weed out the people with offensive opinions, just skip over them and let them live in their selfmade perfect world.

I don't straddle the fence, I'm entrenched on both sides. One A is a "Master Restoration" winner and my driver has all the driver whistle and bells. Don't change a thing on this Ol' Barn.
