a road draft tube

it does both, it lets fresh air in thru the oil cap filler tube and thru engine as it sucks the fumes out when your driving on the highway, a kind of cross flow air induction

they didnt work until about 30 mph.the air rushing by created a vacuum sucking out the fumes.it was important to keep your oil filler cap clean so it could draw.needless to say it wasnt a good setup for city driving.

I like to convert old motors to a PCV. Some engines are very easy to convert, some take a little more work. It can usually be done for very little money. On a fresh engine, this is the best way to keep the insides really clean.

The Y Blocks are very easy to convert to a PCV system. Use the system from a '63-64 Ford F-100/250 Y Block. The system will replace the draft tube in the block and connect to a vacuum port in the intake manifold.
I have converted every Y Block, including my '57 Bird, that I have had for the past 30 years.
