A proposed trade?

I have a '29 Phaeton, I love the car. I also love a '28-'29 RPU. I have a possible chance to trade the Phaeton body for an RPU body. I keep the Chasis and basically just do a body swap. I only have room for one, and actually I don't even have room for one as the cars stored at somebody else's house already. Am I nuts for considering this- the trade part not the storage situation.

Thanks,
Tim

Have you ever driven a RPU. I'm 6' 6" and never did fit in mine. Never drove a phaeton so can't judge the difference.

I too did a trade. Everyone told me I was crazy. It in the long run was not good in the other parties eyes as they assumed something that was in correct. However I honored the trade and was thrilled. Bottom line, other opinions mean nothing. Do what makes you ahoy and feels right.

The first thing to my mind is... who's going to make the changes on your registration/insurance papers?
1) As you probably know, the bodies don't carry your VIN.
2) Assuming your papers match your frame & engine number AND you keep these papers... can you convince your agent to change the vehicle description to a truck?
3) No point in swapping papers with the other guy, as then you both have Model A's with incorrect frame/engine numbers.
4) In the event you each have matching number vehicles, you're effectively lowering the resale value of each by this swap.
Would it not be less work to swap cars & papers & some cash, then put the "body swap" time into fixing what needs done?

Seperated at birth is one thing.....but after 83 years?

You can have a written report stating all the facts take it to a justice of the peace He reads it stamps the report and it is yours in Canada that is. Gord B by the bay.

I have done something like this, but I probably would not on a Phaeton.I bought a closed 30 pickup cab in 1985 and replaced the coupe body on my 30.Then,in 2008 one of the previous owners started making sounds about wanting his cab back.He is a friend I went to school with and his grandfather had given him the truck. His dad was kind of an ornery cuss and one day in 1970 the guy came home from school and the truck was gone. His dad said you don't need that old junk around. In 2008 I was also driving a 28 roadster pickup, but I mentioned I would like the 30 style. He offered to trade me a new open cab for my closed cab.So we swapped, while I was at it I put a better frame under it,higher gears, repoured the poorly poured rear main, went to cast drums, better fenders and wheels, new bed,now I am putting together another cab on the old parts I had left over.We are non-title here after 15 years,we can change a body style by just telling the town clerk when we register. If we want to change a body style in the middle of our registration year,(if we even bother)we go to the town clerk and she makes a change with a pen, then initials it.It will get officially changed at the renewal time.Costs a total of $12.per year to register an antique here.
