A pickup with a list

My 29 closed Cab Pickup was restored about ten years ago. I bought it three months ago. From all that I can see the truck was "done" right as it is clean as a whistle, top to bottom. Folks in the local Model A Club knew the former owner very well as well as the truck. They all have related to me how this machine is one of the best they have seen. Being new to the hobby I can only go on what I see and I feel very fortunate to own it. Having said that I am concerned that the truck seems to list to the left. Measured at the running boards it is a little over one inch higher on the right side than the left. The list is quite visible when viewed from the rear. Checking underneath I cannot find anything amiss. What am I looking for?

Hard for me to say:rolleyes:. Was it that way when restored 10 years ago:confused:. stuck shock arm? cracked and failed springs . A fat driver put a hurten on the left side? Good luck with the truck and welcome to the hobby...:D

Mitch,
Thanks for directing me to the previous thread. I'm either going to try resetting the ubolts or move to England where we'll be "unusual. I love it. Thanks for the levity and the common sense advice. Thanks to all for the welcome. Hope I can return the help someday.

Rich,

I had the same problem on my 29 CCPU that I bought this summer. I tried all of the items listed in the various postings, including swapping the front spring from right to left and nothing seemed to work. Finally, I sprayed the back spring with a penetrating lubricant a few days in a row and found it to be much better. It is hardly noticeable. The only thing I can think of is that in my case, the back spring leaves were not free to slide on one another, so they tended to set in the listing position.

Also, when I get out, I give it a shove to the passengers side so that when it is sitting, it is nice and level.

Just a thought of something that worked for me.

Bob,
I do the shove to the passengers side as well. Seems to help a little so I suspect a little lubrication and possibly resetting the spring u bolts might help as well. I suggested to my wife she could use the truck as an excuse to fall off her diet as the truck could use the ballast. One good thing about sleeping on the couch, you can watch TV all night.

disconnect the shock arms from the shocks first to see if that makes a difference.

when I did that to our 31 Tudor shortly after purchasing, one corner jumped up visibly- about 2"- when the arm on a stuck shock was disconnected.

Another often missed caused is a frozen spring shackle ( thanks,John LaVoy), a couple of shots of penatrant may do the trick, worked for me....

When checking the rear spring bolts be sure to retorque the bolts even and to at lease 90 lbs; if not touqued tight the spring will shift in the cross member when stepping on the running boards.
