a little troubleshooting help please

did you pull the float and see if it is full of fuel?
The float is good

what happens if you leave the top off the carb and hand fill the chamber to about 3/4"* down from the top? Does it leak then?it leaks

*anybody know the proper working fuel level?float is set at 1 7/16"

did you look at the needle valve and see if it a disc type? It is a needle not a disc the needle valve appears to be working as i can see the flow of fuel stop

did you take out an old steel tipped needle when you rebuilt the carb? Still got it?carb had a rubber one and im using a new rubber one just like every other new holley carb has in them.

Do you have any old crusty carbs under the bench that may yield up usable parts? Needle valve and float?i dont think i need to change these parts

got another carb on another car that works ok? Nope

got any ford guys nearby that may be able to lend you some parts for troubleshooting?nope

did you read my previous post?

Mart.

Edit:
Do you have a clue what fuel pressure the pump is delivering? I can see the needle working correctly by watching the fuel in a clear line.

Are you using a fuel pressure regulator? If yes, is it a cheap *** chrome good for nothing one?

maybe i left this out of my last post but i turned the pump on filled the bowl then turned off the pump. A few seconds later the dripping coming from the nozzle bars startedonly leaking at the center so im thinking i have no idea unless the float is set too high becaause i see the flow stop and ive checked it repeatedly

It's very hard to diagnose from so far away, hence so many questions.

Do you think the fuel pressure may be too high?

Have you tried just lowering the float height until it stops leaking?

Can you see any cracks anywhere?

I'm sort of out of ideas now.

I lowered the float some mire and it seems to have stopped but it's well over 1.5 inches. I give up I'm gonna drive it until I get stranded. Ha

I just finished rebuilding a model 59 and the float was set to 1 1/4". Raising the float to 1 3/8" would result in less gas in the bowl. Is that that the problem here, that the bowl is over filled? Trying to learn.
1 1/4 would be too high IMO. I use 1 7/16 but you could go to 1 3/8 and try.OMO. Use steel needle and leather accel. pump. ken ct.

I suspect pump is putting out too much pressure if it still leaks out of the center "Y" shooter into the venturie with the motor off.It might hold pressure in the line and carb for a few minutes and then stop leaking would seem to point to over pressure. I may be all wet on this but its a possibility. ken ct OMO.

im still gonna investigate the pressure but i did drive the car about 10 miles today so im thinking the float was set too high thanks so much to you guys on here. the previous owner of this car only sold it because he couldnt figure this problem out. you guys are life savers. i cant tell you how much i appreciate this.
