A little story

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. We've all been through it. My parents gave me a 36 tudor touring sedan in 1951. I was in hog heaven. It cost them $125. In 1952, i rolled the car and tore it up pretty badly but continued to drive it until going into the Navy that Fall. Before leaving home, my Mom told me to get rid of "that junk". I sold it for $8. We were both happy---then. Years later I am restoring a similar car and would sure like to have "that junk" for parts!!

Back in '57, my brother and I paid $50 for a '32 tudor and $35 for a '34 cabriolet (only $35 'cause there wasn't an engine in the'34.) In '66, I paid $2300 for a '63 Chebby coupe (the one with the split rear window.) Still got 'em all. Only the Chebby is on the road, but the others are being worked on. Kinda like barn finds, but we always knew where the "barn" was.

When I was 14 my dad let me buy a 38 ford sedan for $75, but only to work on till I got a driver's license (at 16 in Ill.) It had dual Smittys and sounded incredably cool. At 15, i ran into a guy who had a chopped / channeled 32 3 window w/ an "all out" but locked up 48 Merc. I traded the sedan and $110 for this prize. With some NOXO, a $2 used battery and alot of love, I got the car running. Mom upholstered it, my buddy's Dad painted it, and I drove it all thru high school. When I left for college, I sold it for $400 and felt like I had just ripped the guy off. Silly me...
