This deal happened about 51 years ago. i was the smartest kid around.
I bought a set of Edmonds heads, an Edmonds intake with 2 carbs, a set of cast iron headers, a 3/4 race cam and a distributer ALL FOR $25.
As smart as i was, I sold all of this for $35 a short time later.
big business man, huh?

I bought a complete model a coupe (less engine and trans) about 50 years ago for $75.00 pulled it home, sold it a few weeks later for $125.00. Made a killing!!

I bought a 32 Ford roadster in pieces for $150.00 in 1959 and sold it a week later for $350.00 I thought that I'd arrived.

Dad bought "Old Henry" 51 years ago for $100.00.
He never sold it. Now I'm driving it. See picture to the left.
Killing? I'd say so.

Add me to the list! In the Spring of 1960 I bought a '33 three window for $125, an engine for $10 and a basket of miscellaneous speed equipment for another $10. Total investment $145. I sold it for $175. At the time I though I made a real "killing" but what I really did was to give myself 50 years of kicking myself not to mention the nightmares!

57 years I bought a 36 ford 3 window for $ 75'00, My Dad and I put 40 ford brakes and painted it red, my uncle Tom traded his 53 mercury for it ,I wrecked that ins. payed me $ 1500.00 ,a lot of money then, I bought a 49 ford convertable for $ 600.00, all this by age 16. I was happy drove it through high school and navy. Harold central coast Ca.

In the early '70s I bought a '39 coupe roller for $75. It was chopped and had a sectioned hood with raised front fenders. The body was NICE except someone along the way did a butcher/unfinished channeling job on it. Made a quick $50 on it. Oh would I love to have it back.

Not so long ago I bought a 30 pickup chassis complete $2,500 Also bought a 30 pickup truck not really worth restoring for $3,200 used the cab and box for the frame I bought, and sold the rest to someone making a speedster for $1,800. Made one hell of a nice truck out of the two, then sold the truck for $8,200 on flee-Bay. I sure miss my old truck. You may have seen it. If not check it out in my profile. Ryan profiled it awhile back. Thanks Ryan.

P.S. I know there is no such thing as a Model A not worth restoring.

I bought my first car a 31 CH**** 2 door for $35.00 on payments in about 1951 drove it in to a salvage yard sold it for $7.00 Don't remember what I did with that $7.00. OH Well it was just a darn Ch^%#@^ ~~Walts37~~

In 1967 I bought a 1947 Mercury for $85 and drove it for 14 years.
During that time I listened as many people told me they had had one and wished they had never sold it.

They were Right!
My son has asked for it and since he wants it I have agreed to let him have it.

The same year my best friend bought a 1950 Ford for $57 that had been customized in Missouri. 20 years later he gave it to me and I still have it.

How about the ones that "got away" ? I was in the Navy in 1967 and was told by a shipmate that his dad had a 57 T Bird for sale at his home in Tennafly NJ. Went to look at it one weekend ,32,000 actual miles, low for a 10 year old car, price was $1500,probably adverage or high adverage, two years before I had a brand new 65 Mustang that was $2,400 that I had to sell as monthly payment was higher than base pay. Came up with $800.00 of price but out of stupid foolish pride refused my buddies parents offer of holding car and storing it until I got the balance. I had a 30 Model roadster at home that was probably worth another $800 but I refused to sell it or my dad talked me out of selling it.

Not really an old car, or a Ford, but in high school I bought a running and driving 1966 Chevelle Convertable for $275. Drove it for a year or so and sold it for $200. I kick myself in the butt every time I think of it.
Oh, by the way, I had a pair of Mickey Thompson slicks and an Offenhauser Six-pack manifold with all carbs and linkage in the trunk that went with the car. ):

I'm sure we've all got similar stories. When I was 16, in '65, I bought a running, good looking '48 Ford TuDor Sedan for $100.00. When I got drafted in '69 my dad told me that he would not keep the car at the new house he was building so I had to get rid of it. Two years later I was out of the Army and found the car, it was owned by a guy I went to High School with, he didn't want to sell it. Fast forward to '86. My Brother-In-law (also my best friend in HS and to this day) called and told me a neighbor of his had a Turtleback Sedan. I went to check it out and it turned out to be the car I had in High School. I offered to buy it however the owner didn't want to sell... I still know where the car is and every time I'm up to New York, on business, I try to stop and visit my first car. I'd still like to have her back... well, maybe someday.:)

back in 1965 i bought a bone stock 1955 nomad wagon w/265 and powerglide for $375 sold my 57 belair 2 dr h/t w/283 powerpack for $500 to pay for it,my dad thought i should have my head exam for for wanting a 55 when i had a 57 ...

In 1963, I bought a 1934 phaeton for $600.00. With it came three shiney black NOS fenders, NOS grill shell, pair NOS bumpers, NOS hubcaps, NOS shiney black spare tire cover, NOS roadster/phaeton wind-shield frame, radio and boxes of misc mechanical parts. I still have it !

....This is what I got in early 1967 for $100. I was 15 at the time. Everybody thought I was nuts....

Did a bunch of work on it while in high school. By the time I was 17 (late 1968) The stock flathead was overhauled, went through a bunch of 1st gears, and did a back yard body/paint job. And drove it.

Tried to sell it at one point for $350. so I could "upgrade". No takers so I was stuck with it. By 1976 I had a lot of miles on it, motor/brakes were getting bad, so I parked it. Outside. Eventually as I bought property, it got stored inside... And where is it today.........

I still have it...............

In 1957 I bought a Model A roadster pickup from behind the gas station. Rough but had 3 NOS fenders. Couldn't afford the restored chassis for $150. Put about $75 into it (yeah, I remember). It went to a lumber yard owner from Wichita, Kansas. Wonder what he did with it. It had a red engine and white running gear as I remember.
