A little more on 39 PU windshield

Mainly just venting!

Someone on FB said you'll learn new swear words doing a windshield. Amen

Found some great info on FB so I thought I'd try it.
Tore the tape and finally, broke one glass. More tape on the way.

I thought, well, I'll play with the outer seal and see how that goes in - just a little till I get more tape.

Went in "most of the way", but seemed like the frame was crushed and it was too tight, so I went to the barn and got another to look at.

Turns out the one I was trying to put the glass in isn't a 39 - top and bottom meet at 1/2 not 1/3. (Glass shouldda gone in anyway.....)

Dang it - I didn't even know I had a 37 frame out there when I grabbed the best one I had to clean, strip, blast, scrape and paint.

Now I can restore my patience while I do it again.

Wonder if there is a different rubber seal for the pre-38 windshield frames? Looks like the rubber I have will go in the 39 frame ok.

The earlier frame is missing a rib/channel under the front bezel - where you have to force the rubber. I'll have to look at the catalogs.

Always learning from my mistakes..................

BTW - good posts on windshields:

Thanks guys - sounds like I'm not alone struggling with he windshield.

Tony, I had seen some of those posts but not all - very helpful.

Tinker - I'm ok on the pieces. Thanks

Wish I could show you the cross section of the outer rubber seal - it seems way different from the one I'm taking out.

Got a lot of cleanup/painting to do now on the correct 39 frame; then I may start whining again......

He, He, He, wait until you try to install the windshield assembly into the cab and line it up. Oh Gordon your in for some real fun.

On a serious note, have two others assist as you set that windshield/frame into the cab and have a large beach towel across the cowl vent area so you don't scratch up that nice cab paint. Fastenal has those washers and screws that go into the upper hinges, just paint them black.

I know your in Colorado, let me know if you need a beach towel, we have several:D. Scott

Hey Portlander, not fair to laugh at the ability impaired!

Wondering if you use that beach towel to mark where your house or car is buried?

We're having a real winter here, but not like you guys.

Do you remember if your new rubber seal looked like the old one?

Thanks, stay warm.
