A Ford V8 in a Scarab?

I saw this Scarab at one of the V-8 Club's Grand National Meets in Dearborn. It is an amazing vehicle. Actually Buddy L toys made a Scarab metal toy soon after the Scarab was introduced to the public.

There was one in this area about eight years ago,. Yep, a flathead Ford...

I saw one at Owl's Head Museum in Maine in 2012.

Still searching for photos.

It had all 1936 Ford running gear, but I think it was turned backwards with the engine in the rear.

Jeff, I remember seeing that one at Owl's Head as well. I took some pictures of the vehicle, but don't think I got any shots of the engine. You probably have copies of all the pictures I took on that trip.

There was a car with the ford running gear turned backwards, with the old back axle at the front and the steering at the back, but the Scarab was not that one. The engine is above the rear axle, and drives forwards before the drive is taken down and back into the rear end. I only have what I have found by searching google images, can't tell where the trans is, but the engine is high mounted, and the rear end appears to be converted to an independent setup that would allow the engine/trans/transfer unit/diff to all be mounted as a solid unit.

The Dymaxion car had the engine, trans and axle in what would appear a convertional but reversed layout, but had a single steering wheel. It was, reportedly, an ill-handling beast.

Back In the late 60's here in Jacksonville there was an Old fellow, Clyde Davis who had one (and a 1920"s Grahame that was turned into a Train car), my brother and I used to play in (and on) both cars whenever the car club would meet at his house for an outing. He ended up selling the scarab to Harrah's. I vividly remember playing at the table in the back!

Hey Mart, Thanks for researching that information.

As usual, I was a little right and a little wrong.

Pictures I took of the Scarab at the Owl's Head Museum. This car has Arazona license plates.
