A few timing gear questions

The diagram in post #13 is off by one tooth, check the dot in relation to the key way. Compare that to post #9 in the thread titled "Timing Gear" - the dots are obvious with the slinger removed. The crank gear mark is hard to see with the slinger installed but it is there. Forget the key way as a reference and find the crank gear dot! Save yourself a lot of mental gymnastics trying to mesh the gears in relation to the key way. It is a lot of work if you get it wrong.

The drawing in post #13 is the drawing you are referring to. I agree it is not the best but in no way it is one tooth off. It does show that the keyway should be to the left of the timing mark, not the right as the Kursed30 had it. See post #7.

Regardless he has it correct now.

Dropping the pan is not hard and many many posts on it. A couple of tricks on getting the gasket right when you put it back in, but again posts on that. I jack the front up about 4-6 inches with jack stand the axle. More room underneath which makes things a bit easier.

Having read all theses posts, how in the world would it be possible to find ANY timing marks on either gear with the radiator in place? Can’t even be seen without a radiator blocking the line of sight!!! Don’t tell me Les Andrews is wrong and I have to remove the radiator!!!

Post #32 is written by a guy who knows a thing or two about timing gears
