Hey Ron, let me guess.. Is the brown substance epoxy to isolate engine heat and oil splash from the intake??????????

Ron,
Please explain the design attributes of your modifications and how they enhance performance. Did you weld those components you inserted? Would Epoxy really hold up over time as you don't want bits and pieces flaking off and entering the oil system.
Thanks.

I still have this intake, took the pics afew years ago. Forgot how to post them and had my granson help me. The story around this intaake is a long one, soI'll just give the facts. The Racing accociation we ran under SNRA said heads and intakes must be stock. The first intak I made was just an cammel back bored out for a 2GC. Ra pretty good , so I hogged out this intake and using foam carved an OPen plemn internals then fiber glassed them in
This was done so long ago that alum welding was new and I had to take it to a special shop. Back in the 60.s
I wass always a putzer, tried allot of things that didn't work, this worked very well

These were opened up to match the 2GC carb, didn't idle very well, but acceloration from 2500 up was notedly improved.
Running a car under these conditions was difficult, because: If you broke the rules you could loos your number and couldn't race anymore. The only engine change they made all the while I was there was the cylinder heads, Cheater heads were available, so running aftermarket heads became legal .
The last couple a years everything was leagle except the engine mods, because they were discontinuing the flathead in faver of a 310ci OHV engine, we could bore the flathead .020" over the 3 5/16 to save a block. nice of them.

Two year later they turned it into a shopping male, the end of an era!!

It was an end of an era, yet the grandstands at Danbury was filled every Saturday night The Fechner paid $1000 and pais something all the way back. When the overheads came out, the people just didn't show up anymore, the racing was different.

Didn't we have a post of a cheater intake with a second carb hidden in the hollow?? Newc

Pete, your absolutely right, agood driver in a good car with good tires wins every race. Most tracks have a half a dozen drivers that win most races. Don LaJoy, Chick Stockwell, Evey Pierce, and a few others were the big winners at Danbury. In 8 years we never won a fetcher, But we were inspecter by the oficials for setting a track record in the last year of the flatheads, The reason was a good driver, good tires and Bob Kuneo setting the car up. Engine did have this intake on it but I changed the cam to the Sig Errson D410'

"There are two types of racers- cheaters and losers...." - Smokey Yunick ;)

Smokey, it seems, took full advantage of interpreting the rules in the rule book. One of my favorites was a car he ran, which of course had the maximum-sized fuel tank allowed per the rule book. There were (at the time) no rules on the size of FUEL LINES, though. Smokey's interpretation of a fuel line was an eleven-foot-long section with a diameter of two inches, which amounts to an extra 1.095 gallons of fuel between fuel stops.

That intake with a hidden carb was in the 'Old Speedy' collection in Neb. Found at an estate sale, lifetime secret. Newc
