A Bones

I just edited my member profile and mentioned A Bones. Anyone have any idea where the term started and what it meant? When I was a kid in Chicago, Model Ts were called T models and As were called A bones.......there was no premium gas back then, just high test and I worked at a station where gas was 5 for a buck and high test was 4 for a buck.

I guessing that when all the ancillary fenders, brackets, wings, spares, running boards, top, and other 'dress-up items' were removed the carcass displays 'bare bones' and of course it's an "A" so A-Bones. A Greaser's Hot Rod.

skip.

I stop by my local NAPA Auto Parts Store now and then, for things like grease, polish, spark plugs, and the like, and the old guy (like me!) behind the counter always calls my Model A an A-bone. I'll have to ask him next time I'm there.
