A bit of electrical help

I got a new 12 volt solenoid for my 39 Ford, as I'm switching to 12 volts. However, the terminals are unmarked: I know the larger ones are for the battery and starter, but the small ones (2) are my concern. Any assistance?
Thanks
Jim

One works the solonoid, (marked S) use that... ignor the other... Karl- not being a wise *** I hope...

hook up the big ones, then run a jumper from battery to each of the small ones, being sure car is in neutral so it doesn't leave without you. The proper S terminal will spin the starter, the I ignition 12v will do nothing.

two post (small terminals) solenoids have a post (right side-small terminal) that needs 12 volts to power the solenoid, the other (left side small terminal) is used in conjuction with a neutral safety switch, also a clutch pedal safety switch. Your original solenoid was powered all the time and used the small terminal to the dash starter push button which grounded the solenoid to work. I changed my 41 to 12 volts and powered the right side post and ran the other post to the original stater push button, which grounds the solenoid to make it work, the battery cable go to the terminal on the right side, usually marked "batt"

I dont have the part # at my finger tips but you can buy a 12 volt solenoid with the one small post like the original 6 volt ,I have one on my 40 convert.

Bring it back to the store. Go to NAPA and buy part number ST56. It only has one wire and works with your existing starter button.
