97 adjustable jets

was wondering if anyone has any experience with the vintage speed adjustable jets for a 97, pros or cons, also, heard somewhere about an adjustable needle and seat for the float too, thanks.

I have several 97s running with adjustable main jets. It takes a while to adjust them by reading the plugs or with an exhaust gas reader. I just drove my 39 last weekend on a 1150 mile trip. 625 miles on Saturday and 525 miles on Sunday. I drove down I-95 and I-75 at 65 t0 75 MPH the entire trip and I have to recheck and make sure I didn't miss a gas slip but it looks like we got 22 MPG. G.M.

I failed to mention that I made one set and put a long tapper on the needle valve and the bought ones had a blunt tapper and I made that longer for a finer adjustment. I don't see what an adjustable needle valve would do on the float. There is a hole in the needle valve inlet of around .090 that restricts the amount of gas flowing into the gas bowl at 3 1/2 lbs pressure. The reaction time of the needle controls the fuel level in the bowl. The double ball type valve that replaces the needle opens and closes rapidly and the float level stay pretty much the same all the time. G.M.

The adjustable main jets also depend on the jets installed in the carb. Most stock carbs have small jets to start with.

Your right Ron, I opened up the main jets to.065 and made a long tapper on the needle valves so they had a finer adjustment. G.M.
