8RT Generator drive belt

I am not sure I have the correct length generator drive belt for the 8RT. It has the wide truck pumps, crankshaft, and generator pulleys. The width is correct, but it seems to short. The Gates # is TR 20544, 15A1380. Seems to measure 54" around the outside diameter. Any ideas ? Thank you Fordbarners.
 
Assuming that you have the gen. adjustment all the way to the bottom and it still doesn't fit, get a longer belt.
 
Nearly all aftermarket belts used to have the width & length as part of the part number. Not all do now days so it can make things difficult when purchasing. Many interchange books don't go back far enough to insure a correct cross over from one part number to the next. Back in the day you ordered a 5/8" X 54" and that's what you got. If a 54 is too short, you get a 54.5" or a 55" as long as it's available.
 
Check the diameter of the Generator pulley. There are two one for the 8BA and one for the 8RT. I have the correct pulley for the 8RT it has a larger diameter sheave than the 8BA therefor the belt will be longer for the 8RT. You can get me at jim@tringali.org. Jim.T.

How will a larger dia. pulley make an already short belt longer:confused:
 
He said it needs a longer belt. I found that I need to loop the belt over a water pump pulley last to get the one on my passenger car on.

If you want to get the right belt for your application lay a tape measure around the outside of the pulleys. Gates fan belts numbers are three inches shorter than the outside diameter you need. Example a wide belt 54" long will be a B-51. If you need a wide belt one inch longer it will be a B-52 it will be 55" outside diameter. I hope this helps.
