8cm cam oil gear

I'm having a 255 merc engine being rebuilt. It has a 8CM cam it that has a loose oil pump gear and a worn feul pump drive. I would just use a electric feul pump but the loose oil drive gear is the stopper. It's so loose if I tilt the cam the gear falls off. My machinist says he doesn't trust fixing it by pining it. The lifter lobes look great. With the wear on the feul pump drive to cam lobes must be down a bit too. If I had another core I'd send it to be reground but I don't. Is it common to fix the gear somehow or just spend $450 on a new cam & lifters. Gene

I have lots of regrindable cam cores, others do also... They gotta be cheap... I would get one from someone... I'm near SF, Ca.... There are people closer to you I am sure... Karl
