8BA temp sender wiring

On the 49-up engines, RH side head (passenger), which post does the cross over wire go to and which side does the sender wire go to?

Also, can I temporarily ground the wire from the gauge to see it swings from cold to hot (function check)?

Thanks

On my 52 Mercury the gauge wire connects to the sender on the left head and has a short jumper wire going across to the right side sending unit. It works well. But without that second short wire to the right side it did not work at all.

The single post sender does the work of feeding the gauge, while the two post " sender" is a simple thermostatic switch that opens above boiling temperature. This, in turn, allows the gauge to go to the full hot side of the dial to protect the engine. These units have a pipe thread, and Teflon tape should not be used because it will prevent the important ground necessary. All senders require a good ground except the ammeter.

I only use a single post on the right side works good also have mechanical on left side, seems to be accurate,

Here's the info. that will answer your original question.

Here's the rest. Be sure and read the very last paragraph about" wires not touching each other."

And yes you can momentarily ground the wire going to the gauge if it moves to
cold it is good to go, same with oil and fuel gauge's.

For some, this maybe hard to read. However most computers have a magnafier App. that makes this much easier.

PS and there's also text to speach readers that make long winded post more interesting.

Ron: If you right click on the photos you can save them to your computer, you can give them a unique name and then go back to the saved location (like your photos, look up the name you gave the photo) and blow up the photo to see details or read text. The size of the text is only limited to the amount of pixels the photo was posted to fordbarn with. At some point they will become unreadable. Give it a try.

Yes, I've done this with stuff I wanted to save. But the magnafier runs a half inch at the top of the screen and I can read anything I want. OR just let the text to speech do it

What is a good way to test the senders? Maybe it's in 19fordy post? Can't read it on my phone tks

The sending unit is a 6 volt King Seeley points style, while the switch is just that. You can set up a mock system with the appropriate KS temp gauge (starts on HOT), when energized the pointer will move to the COLD hash mark with a pulse rate of approximately 1/second. As the temperature rises, the pulse rate decreases, causing the pointer to approach the HOT hash mark. If you have a 1956 KS sender and gauge they will be 12 volt and marked accordingly.
