8BA Starter Dimensions Help Please

Hi all,
I'm preparing to machine an engine adapter plate for a special 8BA flathead project that will have the Ford starter motor mounted onto it. Unfortunately I don't have anything here to measure off so I'm trying to find what the OEM starter motor to crankshaft centerline distance is. Does anyone have any drawings or documentation with this size please? Thanks in advance, GB.

Where are you? Seems like you would be best off with an actual starter in hand.
probably everone here has one or two lying around...

Assuming that you at least have the flywheel/ring gear and correct starter/bendix gear on hand. Some measuring of these components should give what you are looking for.

Thanks for the replies, I'm in Sydney Australia. I thought that there could have been some old Ford info / drawings out there or maybe an aftermarket parts manufacturer person that might know what the size is.
It was worth a try though, I'll have to find a bellhousing and starter plate to measure off, unfortunately they're not as common down here as in the US anymore. Regards, GB.

31coupe: I came across this site and am betting that if you contact these fellows you will get the answers you need. They appear to really know what they are doing. Best regards, 19Fordy

Also, H&H Flatheads in CA makes their own starter plates for flatheads and I bet they can help you if you contact them. http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/1111rc_h_and_h_builds_a_flathead_motor/viewall.html

This may help also. http://www.flatheadv8.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2858

As 51 Merc Ct mentioned, all you need is a flywheel with the ring gear and a starter bendix to calculate the dimention from the centerline of the crankshaft to the centerline of the starter shaft. The block castings have some limitations as to the degree of placement on the lower right side of the engine due to the placement of the oil pump in the pan and other factors on the left side. A starter plate and a bare block could be used to find the angle in degrees relative to the crankshaft centerline. There are several starter plates on the 8BA family of engines but they are all placed the same. The differences are for the different bell housing configurations within the family.
