8BA Rod bearings

Got a set of rod bearings from Speedway, 910-15361-STD, went to install and found the oil hole in the insert off by 3/16" with the hole in rod, which would block oil to the upper cylinders. Not even close. Has anyone else ran into this? Original FMC on left Speedway version on right. Thanks Zeke
I noticed the Clevite CB15P pictured on the Summit site has two oilholes in the insert. Speedway (Israel) $12 a set Summit $32 a set

As you probably know, the first 8BA engines 49-50 didn't have oil holes so the speedway brg would work fine. BUT if you rods have holes it would be nice if they worked. I would call Speedway and talk to a tech man and ask him what part of the world they got those brg. Walt

Vendor is King, made in Israel . Here is a picture of the rod and insert in position to see difference in hole. King bearing set $12, Clevite $32 at Summit . Zeke

I personaly do not think that there is a better engine bearing than Clevite. That is what i always buy. They were around when the flatheads were a common engine. Marv

I do not see why you could not drill and champher, if that is what you want to do. You will still have foreign bearings of unknown quality. Good Luck Marv

The Israeli's usually make pretty good stuff. I wonder if they were made to fit something else. I know squat about the French engines but I wonder if they have a different oil hole location? The Israeli's use military stuff from all over.

King bearings have been around for a while it is good stuff it is there are lots of them running in small blocks with no problems.
You could drill and camphor if you like but as was stated some rods don't have a hole and they run ok also.

I would be tempted to cut a relief or groove on the back of the shell with a cutoff wheel. This way you are not taking away any of the bearing surface. It may be minor and this idea may not be the best. Any thoughts?

I see the Clevite bearings, CB15P have two oil holes drilled. Zeke

I ran into the same problem with FM bearings a while back.I couldnt get an answer as to why the hole was there but in a different place so I eventually took them to a machine shop and got them drilled for pretty much nothing.I thoght about doing it my self but there not really cheap.I wish I knew it wasnt needed but I havent had any problems....yet

I have a question regarding the king bearings ,are they aluminum faced or are they trimetal, lead tin copper etc.?
Thanks!
fordestes

Kings are used by some Top Fuel and Funny Car teams at the 7-8000 HP level, I would not be concerned about their quality. I'd drill for the correct hole location, at the stress level of the average f/h the reduction in bearing surface area will not be a factor.

Well Speedway customer service was some what helpful, they sent a pickup for the wrong parts and sent the replacements, but they sent the same thing, oil hole in wrong place, they have since sent a pick up and will refund all charges, can't ask for better service. I have ordered Clevite's. In hind sight I should have just drilled the correct location and been done with it. Zeke
