8BA oil gallery tube

I'm tearing down a 8BA and have a question about the oil gallery tube that runs the length of the camshaft oil gallery. Seems to me that this should be removed prior to cleaning and inspecting the block. Is that correct?

Next question is how do you remove the tube?

Thanks.

If you read my book you will see how the oil tube is held in place and realize removal is probably not a good idea. A good seal is required at the contact areas because of the need to contain oil pressure. I have seen and heard from others about leakage at the saddles and it is difficult to solve that problem.

I've removed a couple of them but it's not nesercery, I have a long brush that will go the length of the tube, remove the plug on the front, accually the 8ba tube is easier to clean because it ends in front of the fuel pump push rod bushing goes, then push the brush in from the side of the block, To remove the tube tap a thread in the front of the tube and screw a slide hammer in and clunk it out. Be very carefull installing the tube to line up the center hole with the center cam bearing. Walt

Thanks Walt. The reason I was asking is that during the cleaning process some shops bake the block. Since I haven't selected a shop to clean the block yet, I wasn't sure if it would damage the tube.

I've been having my blocks baked cleaned for the pas 30 years and never had a problem with the oil tube. as Walt said a wire brush for a rifle barrel will clean it. "If it ain't broke don't fix it."
