8ba in a 36

About the only real problem is finding the room to fit a mechanical fan that actually cools the engine. DD

I have a '49 Merc 8cm in my 36. I ran the truck pumps with single belt an a Cooling Componants electric fan and shroud with excellent results.

Cooling is a non issue unless pulling a long grade on the interstate even with a zero pressure origional radiator.

Using '48-'52 truck pan helps with the clearance issues on the drag link/tie rod. I also used electric fan & shroud in lieu of the mechanical fan.

i've got a '35 with a '49 8BA, had some minor mods to the engine peripherals. I wanted the crab style dist front of engine to match the original look of the 59AB. Oil pan is from a '49 pickup. Slid in place a little tight getting past the front cross member. Mine had a modified Merc crank from builder. Not that hard installing Just go slow and deliberate. Two man job to be safe.

Great engine, you'll love it. Good luck and enjoy the experience! I did.

I recently found this picture of a '36 with an 8BA somewhere on the WWW. I wish I could offer more details.

I suppose that electric fans offer an easy solution to a space constraint, but to me, the electrics just appear so "out of place", or like an ONLY alternative. This guy has obviously extrapolated on a vision to come-up with some hardware to leave those modern-looking, electro/plastic fan assemblies in the Camaros where they look more at home. To me it shows that with a little more pre-planning, there are usually other ways to keep that old car "flavor" alive. DD

That looks like a mechanical fan being driven off the alternator. That IS a pretty cool idea.
