Randy: You mentioned posting photos is not your "thing".
Below is a tutorial that will definitely help you. Practice on the Test Forum mentioned in the video and you will master photo posting. Be patient and practice, practice, practice.
This will yield more complete answers to your questions from those on the Fordbarn.

Of special interest are photos of your engine, intake and fuel pump.
Personally, I would not try to drill out the aluminum plug in your fuel pump push rod hole
because of the possibility of a tiny metal chip falling into the oil gallery. AS you may know, originally there is a brass/ bronze bushing in that hole thru which the fuel pump push rod slides up and down. If that OEM bushing has been removed, you will have to install a new fuel pump push rod bushing in order to use the OEM mechanical fuel pump.
CAREFULLY READ everything here on the topic of removing fuel pump push rod on an 8BA. There are lots of opinions.

6V electric fuel pumps that are quiet are available if you do a Fordbarn SEARCH for electric fuel pumps. Make sure you have your electric fuel pump properly located near your gas tank as per instructions. Improper placement can result in loud clicking like you hear when gas tank is almost empty. Is your fuel tank the OEM Ford original?

As a side note: Since 1999, on my 8BA I have been running a Holley 390 carb with an electric fuel pump set at 3 1/2 psi. I did not plug the fuel pump push rod hole.
