8BA engine to '39 trans??

I have installed an 8BA engine in my 1939 std 2 dr and need to hear from
someone who has done this change out before. I know it is "old school" stuff
and I must be doing something wrong.

Here's what I have done. Installed new flywheel drilled for 10" 42-48 clutch disc and pressure plate and new throw out bearing. My problem is
the clutch pedal runs out of travel before throw out bearing touches
pp arms.
Do I have wrong TO bearing or what?
Any suggestions appreciated

You should give Fort Wane Clutch a call.

I had my 8ba with a 39 trans. setup built by FW Clutch and every thing works fine.

Looking back at what you said " Installed new flywheel " is it the correct flywheel for a 8BA ?
You may need to lengthen the clutch rod from the peddle to the clutch shaft.

My guess is you have a pressure plate with no screws 3 fingers, with screws is closer to throw out bearing. I think just make rod longer.

Lets start over again. I assume your using the 39 trans. If you are using the 49-50 merc or truck 3in. bell housing it should work fine. NOW, tell us more about this new flywheel, If it's a 48 or older wheel it won't work with an 8BA engine, with the right wheel and right clutch an PP and right thro out bearing and the bearing cage fits the clutch fork it will work. I get all my clutch and PP from Fort Wayne clutch, I would use the 39 9in.clutch, they are built and fingers are all adjusted right and spot welded, You shouldn't have to ajust finger on a new PP. Al, I have a '35 with an 8BA & 10.5 " clutch and a '39 ******. The '39 ****** gives you more clearance in the flange area to accommodate a larger clutch. As Walt is indicating you need a "49 or newer FW / PP set up. Also Not sure who or how they drilled and tapped your FW for the PP your using? It really needs to be indicated concentric to the center pilot hole in the FW at a tight tolerance ( .002 to .003 ) with an indicator and drilled on a precision rotary table on a precision milling machine or your gonna have vibration issues. At the very least have the FW / PP combination you use dynamically balanced I just went through it. I bought what I thought was a good resurfaced FW for my 10.5 PP and turned out someone had drilled / tapped the mounting holes for the 10.5" onto a FW originally made for a smaller clutch way off center with the pilot bearing hole in the FW. Giant cluster, took several engine pulls a season lost and a specialist to figure it out. Good luck
