8BA distributor on 1936 engine possible?

Just looked more closely at the 8BA and the 36 and realized the reason why this is not a popular choice: the water pumps are in the way of where the 8BA distributor would sit.

Please you guys, read my posts! The problem I have with the helmet distributor has nothing to do with the points failing prematurely and everything to do with having to take the whole darn thing off every time I want to work on it! My points have not failed yet.

I've looked into this as well. I would still prefer the 8BA if possible.

Good question, I don't know. This is the sort of thing I am trying to find out in this thread.
i put my Distributer on my 36 21 stud motor in my 36 pickup, 12 years ago, only had to replace the condenser, i have never taken the distributer off in 12 years, or opened it up

As stated, the condenser is more problematic than the points and distributor itself. The condenser will cause the points to burn. I've driven thousands of miles and never a problem with either the diver bell or crab distributor.

The other option is to use an external coil adapter. Then transistorize the points to trigger the coil with an NPN power transistor. Points only see 200-300 mA. And often eliminates need for condenser. So should be good for K100+ miles. I've used this type of setup on OT point systems before the drop in R2R distributors became available. The Stromberg eFire distributor might work too but some folks don't seem to be too happy with them.
