8ba cooling question

Could the crossover pipe and manifold heat valve make the left bank run 8 to 10 degrees hotter than the right? Stats are tested and system in proper shape afaik.
Also, how should the weight be orientated when the valve is open? Are the arm and butterfly in the same plane? Thanks.

I checked my car several years ago and also found the left bank ran hotter than the right. I have Fenton headers on the car, so I don't believe the exhaust had any influence on it. I don't remember if mine was as much difference as you are reporting though. I chalked it up to the fact that the heater is on the right side and the extra water and circulation was to blame (SWAG).

If you have the crossover still on the car, there should be a heat riser (unless someone has removed it). I have been running headers and duals for so long, I have forgotten if the original was a "Duck Bill" or a "Flapper". You might want to check the heat riser out.

I shut the heater off at the water pump petcock. No difference. Still 8-10 degrees hotter on the drivers side when measured at the temp sensors.

I found a great illustration of the butterfly exhaust heat valve in the Green book (duh) and discovered the bi-metal spring in mine is shot and the valve was mostly closed all the time.

I wired it open days ago and after numerous checks with an infrared temp gun, the engine is now 7-10 degrees cooler on the drivers side when fully warm. I have 160* stats and the readings hover around there.

All three of mine , left bank is hotter . I run a single electric gauge with two senders and a on off on switch .

Interesting. I will mention that I also did a couple flushes over a two week period and couple hundred miles with Thermocure and then some other brand. Tested the stats, filled car with water wetter and distilled water. When I had the stats out I looked and probed in the holes and the water passages are clean.
