8ba backfire

51 ford 8ba msd dist. stock otherwise. car sits for four or more days, start it up and it backfires three or four times . anybody know whats wrong? thanks

If it backfires through the carb, you have already blown out your power valve in there.Check your timeing before you replace it. Use a #5.5 PV. ken ct.

Intake valve sticking open??? It will damage the carburetor power valve

After startup, what does it do?

There might be some cross firing going on too but if it is, it should be leaving trails inside the distributor cap. The cap might be cracked too. If any water condenses inside the cap, it could cause problems but that isn't a common thing to happen.

After backfiring it smooths-out and runs good.

Sounds like you may be running it on orange juice and it is simply spitting out the seeds. Grin,
