80 years ago today

Gene: Millions of folks today don't realize "what you've got 'till it's gone." Then it's too late.

When I came home in July of 1964, I had the honor and privilege of starting my steel erection career as an Ironworker under the tutelage of an Airborne brother who made the jump into Bastogne. He eventually taught our apprenticeship classes and was always regarded with much esteem.
Fast forward to our war and my Airborne brothers who faced the same challenges but came home to a less than grateful nation. While we all bemoan the lack of respect demonstrated by this generation it began long ago in the ‘60s. In fact, we had a recent occupant of the White House voice his disdain toward men at the point of the spear.

Thank you for answering the call. Your words are right on. The event, that you mentioned in your last sentence, still makes me ill.

Agree!

I wouldn’t be so quick to dump on this modern generation. Remember, FDR had a tough sell to his generation, what with the isolationist mentality of the his day. We can rally the troops in similar fashion any time we’re attacked so foolishly again, despite the current lack of history teachings. We are a great nation and always have been a great nation, we’re just slow to pick up the gauntlet.
