79 Ford tramsmission

The truck is 84-87 f150 4 spd, 3 rd gear is direct drive, 4 th gear is overdrive. They come in different percent of overdrive, do a search on this forum and get the chart that gives you the code letters that translate to percent of overdrive. You'll probable want the 26 or 28 percent. You'll have to shorten the input about 1/4" if you use a AA bellhousing and make a 1/2" adapter plate. If you use the A bellhousing you will have to lengthen the input shaft by 1 1/8". There is some good info in Secrets magazine January 2006.

This is the one you want. 84-87 F150, this one had a 302 in front originally.
If you look at the ID plate on the right side, it will have a code. The best codes are RTS-AD, AE, AJ, BP, BU, BV (which is mine), BZ, CS. This box has a 27.6% o/d, the ones from an inline 6 truck have 41.1% and 37.9% o/ds, and may be too much of a reduction. I did this one myself, but Miss Victoria here on the forum sells a kit to do this conversion.

Without seeing a picture of the transmission you refer to (1979 Ford Pickup) My guess is it is a Ford or Tremec SROD transmission. Single Rail Over Drive. The top plate is a flat piece of sheet metal and the Shift Stick is mounted on the Tail Housing.

It will work in a Model A if you go with an open Drive line. Fourth Gear is an overdrive either 37 or 41%. The "Stick" comes up thru the flloor, under your right knee, - not in the center of the car. I have one of these in my Speedster.

It can be made to work but is not the one most of us use to convert to the Model A overdrive. See the above post for the ideal ****** to use.
