700r4 transmission hook up to speedometer

I use the original Speed-o Cable on my 51 F1 when I put a Pont 350/350 eng and Trans in it. Trans end of the cable was same as the Ford.
I also didn't use any voltage drops for the original guages either. I only drove the truck as a daily driver for about 18 years so it might shorten the life of the guages but not while I had it. All I did was change out all the light bulbs.

Yes ,but the 700 is an electronic speed sensor and obviously the 51 is cable. So you can use a cable x converter ,which uses a calibrateable stepper motor to drive a cable speedo, a little spendy at around $300 plus. You May be able to change to a gear drive on the trans ??
Or just run a small column mounted electronic speedo.

Thanks guys. I will leave your group. Just thought as I have two F1,s one stock and one with the drivetrain upgrade, I would ask the question. Have a good summer

Although not flathead related, I can answer your question somewhat.

If you 700R4 has a mechanical speedo output, I believe Autozone will make up a cable with the proper ends for you. Make sure you give yourself enough length, and have your original cable with you so they can check out the speedo end.

If it's an electronic speedo output, check in with the Corvette forums as there's a somewhat pricey adapter to convert the electronic output to mechanical.

You can also have a ****** shop change the elsectronic taishaft to a mechanical - also procey.

To me, after all is said and done, I would go with a cheap GPS, attach it to your windshield and be done with it. Both my avatar and my 40 coupe do not have working speedometers - I just switch my GPS unit from vehicle to vehicle as I need it.

Folks on this forum are really good people but they are flathead folks, period. If you have a stocker with a flattie, please, by all means, lurk, post, or whatever but stay connected on this site for some of the best flathead information you will find anywhere. I myself do not have any really "stock" flatheads nor are any of my vehicles stockers - so, I limit my posts and contribute with flathead related issues.

The written word does little to convey someones true personality - hang around and I know you will enjoy it!

Don't leave forever- stick around and listen to the good advice and knowledge (or at least the silly banter at times)

Thanks again Tom for the knowledge. My 52 is stock but not running at the time. I sent my distributor to Bud to rebuild but still cannot get it started.

tom good advice and yes some folk do go overboard about things

It's just people being people ....

No problem ...there's got to be a SBC guy around in the Green Bay, WI area to give you a hand and be a second pair of eyes. As is always the case with these types of things, it's usually something simple .... and a remote starter switch can really be your friend !
