7 wire turn signal switch problems?

curious. the EL-13 i bought at autozone [novita brand] is sturdy with a coil, capacitor and solid copper framework. and it has a see-thru plastic can. the pic on the right looks very much like the modern 550 i bought. altho mine has a PNP transistor [9012L] and will drive a few milli amps, not micro amps as i mistakenly said earlier. for what it's worth, the modern 550 had me stumped for a time because it sends 12V to the pilot lamp when the turn signals are NOT in use and 8 volts when you engage the turn signals. in other words, for the bulb [again a small LED] to light, you have to wire the positive side to 12 volts and the negative side to the pilot tab. if you connect the positive side to the tab and the negative side to ground, the LED stays on all the time. definitely a WTF moment.
