7 Tooth Steering gearbox assembly question

Hi Barners,
This is an assembly question about the 28-29 steering gearbox. I'm rebuilding one and none of my sources tells which way to orient the oil slot in the lower bushing on the steering column. It's the one just above the worm gear and upper thrust bearing. A slot lets oil past the lower rim of it to permit the bushing to be lubricated. In my case the old bushing had the slot oriented UP in the steering column, but I don't see how oil could get up there. I am guessing the rim slot should go in at the bottom. Here's a picture of it, and it can also be seen in the various parts catalog parts diagrams. In Snyder's and Bratton's it is labeled #14. What do you Barners think?
Thanks, Rancho

I would match the position of the original.
These rarely get replaced. I made my lower bushing and purchased the upper one but did not install the upper one. My steering play is very little now.

On the originals that I have replaced, the slot was up and is presumably so so that oil can reach the bushing and shaft by falling through the little hole. I always prelube these but wonder how much of a grade you need to traverse to get oil up into that little hole and if you lubricate with solid grease you are out of luck....

I imagine, since the Original 600w oil is almost like Honey in viscosity.
When the steering box is full the action of the rotating worm gear pulls up plenty of oil to reach the hole in the upper bushing.
I noticed when filling my box, the oil will flow out of the filler hole, if you turn the steering wheel quickly.
