6v vs 12 volt Overdrive Components Revisited

I 'm planning to upgrade my 49 Merc v8 to a 12 volt system. When I do I need to make adjustments for the overdrive components. Which may tolerate the upgrade and which need to be updated, converted or can be adjusted some way. Also what are good sources for those that need replacement?

Thanks all!

I changed my 53 Victoria to 12 volts, left all the same works great no problem. all selnoids(sp) and relays work on 12 volt

My buddy has been running 6V overdrive components on 12V for more than 15 years. If anything breaks, you needed to replace it anyway!

As for me, I stuck with my 6V system.

Thanks, this is the general consensus I am getting from everyone.

Ehlien,
Be sure to change the ignition coil. A while back we had what appeared to be a solenoid problem, it turned out to a faulty ign coil. I switched to the BOSCH BLUE
COIL on Bubbas recommendation. The additional benefit is the internal resistor. This coil is not cheap but it is effective.
