Does anyone here have experience with this alternator? Been on the car (55CV) at least 30+ years, most likely much more. The part number is obsolete I think as I cannot find it anywhere on the web. Any help/info appreciated.

I just looked at the pic and I'm not sure they are clear enough. Motorola model # A6P-350, 55 amp, 6v pos gnd.

Try googling 6 volt alternator, a lot of the responses come up from tractor restoration sites. You might get lucky. I guess tractors used those after our cars went to 12v negative.

If it is not working, it can probably be rebuilt by a good auto electric shop. I cannot help with this other than that. I know VW used 6volt into the late'60's maybe the early '70's., but don't know what the polarity was. I would try to contact Motorola, and see if you can get an original application, even though they may tell you it is obsolete.

Thanks guys for the responses. First, my son in law got his guy to check it for me. It turned out to be a bad terminal connection. Evedently an easy fix. Second, there is no division of Motorola still around that has the info. They are strictly communications now and according to the person at "corporate" that I talked to, that part of Motorola was defunked many years ago. Third, I did see some of those tractor alternators, also some marine applications that looked like they might work. It is externally regulated and you just can't go and get one like that near as I can tell. As I said above it is fixed so calamity averted. Calamity being kool April nights car show 27-28-29 in Redding CA this month. I have had my registration card for a while and am a little excited for the show. Largest one I've entered so far with the car and farthest away, about 160 one way. Longest trip so far has been about 160 round trip with a few hours stop half way. Anyway, this is long winded enough, thanks again guys.
