'69 Ranchero underhood wiring

Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram and routing of the underhood on a '69 Ranchero. I suspect a Fairlane would be the same. My experience has been with flathead era cars and I'm not too familiar with this new of a car.

I'm trying to rewire that area of a car that had an underhood fire. It belongs to a relative and has sentimental value or I wouldn't tackle it. The wires around the outside perimeter are OK but all the wires to the distributor, sensors, etc on top of the engine are gone because somebody has stripped them all out.

I've searched online and there are many for sale, but I can't tell if they give any routing instructions and connection points. Any help sent this way will be much appreciated.

AFAIK, had a 68. Three wires from molded connector at rear of engine running along top of left valve cover rail. Red with white stripe to temp sensor, white with red strip to oil pressure sender and the last that I can't remember color went to the coil.

Thanks for the help. Was the moulded connector flat with two female bullets and one male bullet? Also, there is one wire running in a bundle with about three vacuum hoses from about center of firewall up and then to the right about a foot and then curls down and back to the left for a few inches. I think the wire is black, do you know where it goes?

Melvin's Classic parts has the oil/temp/distributor harness for 64/65's. They may have one for the later year.

They do have a wiring diagram for 69's.

Happy with their service.

Yes the connector sounds right. If you have a wire coming out with vacuum lines it sounds like a wire for the AC compressor if equipped.

That makes sense, it seems long enough to reach the compressor. Thanks for all your help.

Yes, that is a big help, but I don't see any that will provide connections for two temp sensors. This one has a temp sensor in the 'stat housing on the radiator side and one in the manifold just behind the distributor. cjponyparts.com has a harness for '69 mustang w/small block but it only has 3 wires showing in the pic. Maybe just one sensor is enough. I wish the remains of the old harness was still there. All your help is really appreciated.

I honestly don't know what the sensor is on the Tstat housing is, looks like someone added a aftermarket gauge there. I'll try to do some more digging tonight. Have brought a few back from the flames and it's not an easy task.

Not to worry if it isn't normally there. There are harness available for Mustangs and probably are all very similar. I could make one but it wouldn't have the nice connections on it.

Ok, on the Tstat housing is there a chance that it is a thermal vacuum sensor? I had a 70 with one on it. It had 3 ports, a hose went to manifold vacuum another went to ported vacuum and the last to the advance on the distributor. When the engine would get hot, say around 210 or so it would switch the distributor over to manifold vacuum and speed up the idle to cool it down. They will run fine with the distributor just hooked up to the ported vacuum on the carb if it's missing the switch. Lot of people disconnected them back in the day thinking the were emission related.

The sensor in the stat housing has an electrical spade connection, the one in the manifold has a bullet connection. Maybe the one in the stat housing triggered an electrical valve that triggered the faster idle. I don't know, but none of the harnesses I find for engines around the '69 year have more than 3 wires. Maybe the Tstat sensor is connected with another harness.

The one in the T-stat does not belong there. I don't remember any Ford's having spade connectors. It is probably just being used as a plug, when the thermal vacuum switch was removed. All the engine wiring harness I have seen are just 3 wires. Coil, water temp and oil pressure. AC was a sub harness with I do see you had.

Thanks flatrod, you are probably right. The AC must have been charged because I see a hole in the line where it blew out from the heat. The compressor is behind the seat. Also, it was a PS car and the pump is missing. I don't know how much of the bracketry is gone with it. That is another challenge.
