67 T Bird rear axle

Im buying a 67 T bird for the motor. I am told that car has a 9.375 inch strong rear axle. I want to put that rear axle into a 67 Mustang. The normal width of a 67 Mustang nine inch rear is 59.25 inches outside flange to outside flange, I cannot find how wide a 67 TBird rear axel is from outside flange to outside flange. Does anyone know if this application will work or what the width of the T Bird axle is? Has anyone shortened one of these axles?
Cheers,
George

If I remember correctly, The T Bird has trailing arms and coil springs. The Mustang has leaf springs. That would not be an easy switch even if they were the same width.
Whats wrong with the 9" thats in it?

Check the ratio. Some of the 9 3/8 gear sets are very desirable for land speed racers, and hard to find. Dont throw it away if you dont need it.

That would be more work then benifit. Very limited gear sets (ratios) available, it will have to be narrowed to fit. Look at an Explorer (95 - 01) as they are 59.5" flange to flange, mounted on parrallel leaf springs under the axle, come in many ratios and many have T-lock in them. Disc brakes with a very easy to adapt to your Mustang emergency brake. Most common is 3:73, a few 4:11s and few more 3:55s and very few 3:23s

Thanks, I had a 97 Explorer axle kicking around my back yard. I dragged it into my shed. It has 373's so thanks. Do you know what brake master cyl I should use if I use Grenada front discs. Cheers George

Use the Explorer master, as it is compatable with the Granada front and obviously the Explorer rear.
